Dick Leet
Renowned watercolor artist Dick Leet, a valued member of First UMC, has generously contributed numerous works of art to our church. These exquisite pieces are now prominently displayed along our art hallway, stretching from the administration offices to our WaySide Chapel. Dick Leet and his late wife, Kay, were integral members of the First UMC community, embodying its spirit of fellowship and creativity.
Hailing from Waterloo, Iowa, Dick Leet pursued his artistic journey at the University of Northern Iowa, where he obtained both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree. Additionally, he pursued advanced studies at the University of Iowa. After seven years as an arts educator, he assumed the role of the inaugural director at our neighboring institution, the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City, Iowa, where he dedicated his talents until his retirement in 2001.
With a prolific career spanning over six decades, Dick Leet has showcased his works in more than 67 solo exhibitions since 1956. His art, inspired by the divine and the wonders of nature, graces our walls, enriching our church environment and uplifting our congregation. We consider ourselves truly blessed to be adorned with his masterpieces, serving as a testament to the profound connection between faith and art. We welcome all to come and visit during business hours to take a tour and enjoy some art, especially if you are already visiting MacNider Museum.
