United Women in Faith seeks to connect and nurture women through Christian spiritual formation, leadership development, creative fellowship, and education, so that they can inspire, influence, and impact local and global communities.
Our local unit is active in serving funerals, recently hosted a district meeting, and continues to be mission focused with an emphasis on women, children and youth.
Devotions, Bible verses, prayers, and programs are an important part of our meetings and of course, fellowship is also enjoyed.
An Iowa conference Be Bold Grant plus other funds are being used to connect with our community. Our unit has been working with our local school system and have bought social/emotional books and have also started a “care closet”. Plans are underway to also buy educational toys for preschoolers.
In addition, our unit also enjoys having fun and this year hosted an old-fashioned tea party complete with hats, costumes, and a history lesson. Earlier, to celebrate 150 years of Methodist women being in mission here and around the world, we presented our version of a “dinner theatre” telling of our organization beginnings. In 1869, the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society sent a female physician, Dr. Clara Swain, to India along with an educator, Isabella Thoburn. We continue to learn and grow and support missions.
